The new 2.1beta countdown thread (including Windows!)

I know a lot of you are wondering when the new build of the 2.1 beta will be released. This is a huge step in Rekord Buddy’s development, has taken over a year to put together and will set the foundation for a lot of things I want to do in the future.

So when is it coming out? When it’s ready. What’s left to do before it’s ready? Glad you asked.

For the macOS build, here is the list of outstanding issues:

  • Plug in Traktor playlist and folder drag and drop.
  • Write missing unit tests for Traktor playlists.
  • Change collections to keeping ownership of their crates.
  • Plug in rekordbox playlist and folder drag and drop.
  • Beat grid locking flag should be optional.
  • Fix Traktor marker position getting truncated on import.
  • If the app fails to open the database it crashes instead of just displaying an error message and exiting.
  • Traktor collections should use more precise playtime is it’s still around.
  • PUNTED: Add support for a DiscNumber property.
  • PUNTED: Check for other opened apps upon launch.
  • PUNTED: Rekord Buddy folder should be created with its custom icon.

and for the Windows build:

  • Fix any building issues introduced by macOS changes.
  • Finish the installer/packaging.
  • Check that file paths in all the apps (Traktor, Serato, rekordbox) are handled correctly.
  • Finish porting app authorization on Windows.

I will update the lists here as I go along. Cross out items that are done and add items that came up. You guys can follow along. Remember the macOS build will ship first, then Windows.

I’m being open and transparent here. I want everyone to see what happens behind the scenes and I want to hold myself accountable to all you guys waiting on this release. I’m working as hard as I can to make this happen ASAP. Thank you for your patience with me.

I have to figure out a way to re-enable this. It used to make browsing really slow but I’ll look into it after 2.1 ships.

if there is a way to desactivate / activate in option i’m ok with that too :smiley:

In the old version, i discover it was a super easy tool to use, to see if my tracks were already played in a playlist list before, meaning if there is no playlist attached, it’s fresh to play !!!

Grid Issue - Serato > rekordbox

A small, unfortunate, update on my current schedule. I’m in the process of jury selection for jury duty here in California. For those of you who don’t reside in the states, jury duty is mandatory up to once a year.

Most of the time you get called up and you never get to serve on a jury, that only takes you a day. In my case, currently, I’m in day number 2 and it seems like there is a chance that I will serve on that jury. If I do, this is a 10 business day case where I will be in the courthouse everyday during the day.

That of course would put a huge damper on my, already awful, timeline-keeping achievements. In other words, this would delay the new 2.1 beta.

If that happens I will try to work during lunch breaks, evening and week-ends in order to continue to make some progress and keep up with support but don’t forget that 1) I have a family that will also, rightfully want to have some of my time. 2) @astromech is here to help out with urgent support and I have one contractor helping me with the Windows port of Rekord Buddy. So not all hope is lost.

I’ll keep you all posted. As usual I just want to be transparent and communicate things, even bad news, to you guys as soon as possible.

I cannot wait! Your software will be the only thing that makes RekordBox tolerable (IMO).

I’m going to go out on a limb here but there might be a slim chance that a macOS 2.1alpha will be made public toward the end of next week :crossed_fingers:

Nice! Great work! Unfortunately, I’m a Windows user, but hopefully that means the Windows version will follow shortly!

I’m probably going to miss the end of this week because I want to take a couple of days to test the build before sending it out but next week looks good. This is a huge step.

I’ve punted a couple of tasks until after the first build is released. It’s more important to get something out right now than to worry about details.

I think you’re right! More testing is always good. Better than finding bugs after release.
